1.6.1. Launch of the engine

The engine it is possible get only an original key of Audi.

Completely tighten the emergency brake.

Install the gear shifting lever in neutral situation (a control lever of automatic transmission in situation "P" or "N").

Completely squeeze out a pedal of coupling of the car with the mechanical transmission.

After cold start-up the engine short time can work with the strengthened noise, the necessary pressure of oil in system of hydrocompensation of a gap of valves will not be established yet. This normal phenomenon which should not cause alarm.

"Zum Starten des Motors Kupplung betatigen" (for launch of the engine press a coupling pedal).

This instruction appears on some cars with the mechanical transmission if at launch of the engine the coupling pedal is not pressed. The engine it is possible get only on condition of pressing of a pedal of coupling.

Turn the ignition key in situation 3 (fig. 1.143). At the same time do not press an accelerator pedal.

As soon as the engine is started, release a key. The starter should not rotate together with the crankshaft.

At launch of the cold or warmed-up up to the working temperature engine do not press a pedal of an accelerator neither before inclusion of a starter, nor during its work.

If the engine was not started at once, then later about 10 sprekratit attempt of start-up and repeat it approximately in half-minute.

After launch of very hot engine it can be necessary slightly to press an accelerator pedal.

Turn the ignition key in situation 2 (fig. 1.143). The control lamp of system of a prestarting warming up lights up.

For launch of the engine turn the ignition key in situation 3 when the control lamp goes out. At the same time do not press an accelerator pedal.

As soon as the engine is started, release a key. The starter should not rotate together with the crankshaft.

Diesel engines are equipped with system of a prestarting warming up. Necessary time of a warming up is defined by temperature of cooling liquid and external temperature.

In the period of a prestarting warming up do not include powerful consumers of current in vain not to overload the accumulator.

To start the engine at once as soon as the control lamp of a prestarting warming up goes out.

At launch of the engine which is warmed up up to the working temperature, and also at a temperature of air above +8 °C the control lamp of system of a prestarting warming up lights up approximately for one second. It means that the engine can be started at once.

If the engine was not started at once, then later about 10 with stop attempt of start-up and repeat it approximately in half-minute.

If full expenditure of a reserve of diesel fuel in a tank took place, then after gas station process of launch of the engine can longer last usual (up to one minute). It is connected with need of removal of air from fuel system during launch of the engine.

Turn the ignition key in situation 1 (fig. 1.143).

ATTENTION Switch off the engine only after a full stop of the car.

Amplifiers of the brake and steering drive work only at the switched-on engine. Therefore at the switched-off engine or on a pedal of a brake it is necessary to put bigger effort to a steering wheel. It can become the reason of accidents and receiving serious injuries as in this situation the car is driven and brakes not as usual.
