5.2.7. Removal and installation of the amplifier of steering (left wheel)

Removal
Disconnect plugs of the accumulator and if necessary remove it.

ATTENTION
Transfer a steering wheel to average situation and during repair you do not twist since at the same time it is possible to damage the carrying-out safety cushion element.

Take the ignition key at the average provision of a steering wheel.
Shift a steering wheel for locking of the lock a little.
Remove a ware compartment from the driver.
Weaken the screw
Take measures against separation of a steering column. Before removal protect a steering column.

NOTE
In case of damage of a cuff of a forward wall it is necessary to establish new.
You monitor the correct landing of a cuff of a forward wall.

Clamp the giving and drain hydroline clips for hoses (fig. 5.2).
Turn off forward wheels.
Weaken screw connection of a depreciation rack / the bearing support (only on the left side of the car).

Establish a depreciation rack 1 (you look in the direction of the movement) before the bearing support 2 (fig. 4.55).

Weaken a nut 1, take a six-sided bolt and extend both levers 2 up (only on the left side of the car) (fig. 5.20).
Flaring of shlits in the hug bearing case by means of a chisel, etc. is not allowed.
Unscrew a bolt 3 and remove screw connection 4.
Pull out / squeeze out steering draft from the pendular lever in a downward direction.

NOTE
Between the pendular lever of steering 1 and a sealing washer 2 tips the helmsman of draft is forbidden to insert a chisel or similar tools for expression of steering draft since it can do will lead to damage of a sealing washer (fig. 5.21).

To squeeze out / beat out the wooden or rubber hammer steering draft from the pendular lever allows only through the cylindrical end of a tip of steering draft.

Fix a rotary fist 1 by means of a bandage 2 on a depreciation rack of 3 (fig. 5.22) at the left.
Turn off a nut.
Wring out a clip.

Disconnect an electric cable (fig. 5.23).
Take a plastic cover.
On cars with 6-and 8-cylinder engines it is necessary to remove the screen from the driver.
That it was possible to remove it, it is necessary to dismantle the forward catalyst.
That it was possible to remove the screen from the driver on cars with 8-cylinder engines, it is necessary to dismantle a forward pipe of a final collector.
Turn off the screw 1 approximately on 1 turn.

Turn off bolts of 2 and 3 (fig. 5.24).
The amplifier of steering on the party of the driver cast away in the direction of the movement forward
Substitute the tank for the flowing-down hydraulic oil.

Turn off a hollow bolt of a drain hose (22 mm) (fig. 5.25) from the steering mechanism.
On cars with certain combinations of the engine and transmission the hollow screw can be turned off only from a wheel niche.
For this purpose use an open insert of a ring key 22 (standard).

Turn off a hollow bolt of a pressure head hose (19 mm) (fig. 5.26) from the steering mechanism.
On cars with certain combinations of the engine and transmission the hollow screw it is possible turn off only from a wheel niche.
For this purpose use an open insert of a ring key 19 (standard).
Unscrew a bolt of 1 (fig. 5.24).
Take the steering mechanism through an arch of the left wheel (the assistant is required).

NOTE
You watch that the gear wheel of the amplifier of steering did not damage a cuff of a forward wall.

The removed amplifier of steering align by means of the screw for centering of steering (fig. 5.27).
Turn off the screw with an internal hexagon 1 on the steering mechanism.
Shift a gear lath so that centering on a lath coincided with a carving opening 2.
Strongly twirl the screw for steering centering.
Around a seat of a cuff of a forward wall grease the amplifier of steering with G 052 745 A3 lubricant
Establish the amplifier of steering at the water taking away box (the Assistant is necessary).
You watch that on a carving and the surfaces of contact of bolts there was no oil and lubricant.
Install the screw 1, but do not tighten (fig. 5.24).
The amplifier of steering on the party of the driver cast away in the direction of the movement forward

Fasten a hose of the return line and tighten the screw 2 (22) (fig. 5.28).
Fasten a pressure head hose and tighten the hollow screw with the backpressure valve 1 (19) (fig. 5.28).

NOTE
For hollow screws always use new consolidations.
Pressure head and return hoses should not concern each other and other elements.
On cars with certain combinations of the engine and transmission hollow screws can be tightened only from a wheel niche.

For this purpose use an open insert of a ring key 19 or 22 (standard).
Again establish a cuff of a forward wall, you monitor its correct provision.
The ledge of a cuff of a forward wall has to be on one line with a mark in a body.

NOTE
Replace the damaged cuff of a forward wall.
You monitor the correct landing of a cuff of a forward wall.

Install the screw 2, but do not tighten.
Insert and tighten the screw 3 (fig. 5.24).
After that tighten screws 1 and 2.
Unblock the steering lock.
Transfer a steering wheel to average situation, then install the cardan hinge with a crosspiece on a steering gear wheel.
Tighten the screw.

Remove an assembly clamp from a steering column (fig. 5.15).
Establish a ware compartment from the driver.
On cars with 6-cylinder engines install the screen from the driver.
Establish a plastic cover in a wheel arch.
Fix an electric cable.

Establish both fingers of the hinge of the top levers in a rotary fist and by means of the special tool attract as much as possible down (fig. 4.56).
Install the new screw 2 and the self-stopped nut and tighten.

Establish a head of a fork of a depreciation rack and strong delay screw connection 1 (fig. 4.57).
Rubber-metal hinges (saylent-blocks) have the limited working range of twisting. Therefore tighten threaded connections of levers only on the empty car.
Install steering draft in the pendular lever against the stop (fig. 5.20).

NOTE
Install steering draft in the pendular lever 1 only by hand not to load a sealing washer 2 tips of steering draft (fig. 5.21).

Establish screw connection 4 and tighten a nut (fig. 5.20).
Insert and tighten the screw 3.
After that unscrew a bolt for centering of steering from the steering mechanism (fig. 5.27).
Block the steering mechanism the screw with an internal hexagon 1.
After completion of installation of the steering mechanism remove clips for hoses.
Attach / install the accumulator and put a cover of the water taking away box.
Establish and tighten wheels.
Delay screw connection of a depreciation rack / the bearing support with the specified moment.
Check the level of working liquid in hydraulic system.
Adjust the angles of installation of wheels.
Check and adjustment of a running gear are carried out at the stand for RUUK recommended to VW/Audi.

5.2.8. Adjustment of the steering mechanism with the hydraulic booster
