5.2.3. Removal and installation of a steering column

Removal
Remove a safety cushion from the driver.

Remove the lever of adjustment of a steering column (fig. 5.12).
Remove a steering wheel with a safety cushion.
Remove a switch upholstery on a steering column.
Remove the understeering switch
To prevent separation of the top and lower parts of a steering column at removal from the steering mechanism, it is necessary to provide protection.
If the top and lower parts of a steering column too strongly to move apart or enter each other, then gear gearing will be separated.
It orazy at further operation emergence of knocks is possible if teeths do not rise in the initial situation.
Establish protection of a steering column before removal

Stretch a wire or a collar through an opening in the lower part of a steering column and a spring (fig. 5.13).
The wire or collar can be stretched also also through a spring and the cardan hinge with a crosspiece.
Disconnect the plug from the switch of starter / ignition and the reading-out coil.
On cars with the automatic transmission it is necessary to unhook the lock.
Before it transfer the lever of switching to situation "P".

The ignition key establish in situation "B" ignition "in C" (fig. 5.14).
Raise the blocking hook 1 a little and take the lock 2 of the ignition lock case.
Weaken the screw.

Disconnect the lower part of a steering column from the amplifier of steering (fig. 5.15).
Unscrew bolts 1

Take a steering column (fig. 5.16).

Installation
Installation is carried out in the return sequence.
At installation pay special attention to the following.
The new steering columns delivered as spare parts are recorded by means of shipping protection.
After installation of a steering column in the car this protection needs to be removed.
Establish a steering column and twist screws 1, but do not tighten (fig. 5.16).
Install the hinge of a steering column on the amplifier of steering and twist the screw (fig. 5.15).
Level a steering column without tension concerning a gear wheel of the amplifier of steering
Tighten screws of a steering column / a fixing plate.
Tighten the screw of the hinge of a steering servoperedacha.
Remove shipping / assembly protection.
At cars with the automatic transmission fix the lock.

For fixing of the lock transfer the ignition key to situation "B" ignition "in C" (fig. 5.17).
Transfer the lever of switching to situation "P".
Insert the lock 2 into the ignition lock case. At the same time you watch that the blocking hook 1 came into gearing.
