7.5.14. Repair of wires of the tire of CAN

As a wire of the tire of CAN the two-core wire 1 and 2 with the section of 0,35 mm2 or 0,5 mm2 is used.
To find the color coding of wires of the tire of CAN in the following table
Tire CAN-High wire, privodoranzhevy/black;
Tire CAN-High wire, комфорторанжевый / green;
Wire of the tire CAN-High, Infotainment orange / violet;
CAN-Low wire (all) orange / brown.
Repairs of wires of the tire of CAN are allowed to be made with use of both a repair wire of suitable section, and the twisted wires "green / yellow" or "white / yellow" according to the catalog of spare parts.
At repair both wires of tires have to have identical length. When twisting wires the 1 and 2 length of a round has to make A=20 mm.
At the same time the wire piece, for example, in the field of welded contacts more long than B=50 mm without twisting of wires should not be formed.
Wind the repaired piece with a yellow insulating tape to designate that in this place repair was made.

Replacement of antenna wires
The new concept of repair was developed for repair of antenna wires. As spare parts, instead of antenna wires entirely, connecting wires of various length, and also various adaptor cables are offered now.

General description
Antenna wires are not subject to repair. In need of repair they should be replaced with the connecting wires and adaptor cables offered as original spare parts.
These original spare parts are suitable for replacement of all antenna wires of any section.
Cases of plugs are available to antenna cables as the spare part only of one color, however can be used for replacement of antenna plugs of any color.
Replacement of separately antenna plugs in case of repair is not provided.
These wires can be used in all VW models with antenna wires of any section.
All connecting wires and the coordinating cables are suitable for any accepted and transmitted signals.
This repair concept can be used also when testing and the additional equipment.

Review of installation of an antenna wire
Example: the antenna wire from the radio tape recorder to the antenna is damaged. The following wires are necessary for repair:
1 – an adaptor cable, for connection to the radio tape recorder. Length is about 30 cm.
2 – the connecting wire delivered various length.
3 – an adaptor cable, for connection to the antenna. Length is about 30 cm.

Installation of a new antenna wire
Disconnect plugs of the damaged antenna wire from devices.

NOTE
Remember that depending on a car complete set the total length of an antenna wire because of control units of the choice of antennas, control units of a radio communication or antenna amplifiers can be divided into pieces. In each case it is necessary replace only the damaged piece.

Define an arrangement of the laid damaged antenna wire in the car and to measure the total length of the damaged antenna wire.

Fig. 7.111. Wires necessary for repair of an antenna wire

Total length of an antenna wire consists of length of necessary adaptor cables 1 and 3, and also length of a connecting wire of 2 (fig. 7.111).
Take away 60 cm that determine length of a necessary connecting wire 2 from the measured total length of an antenna wire.
To get necessary adaptor cables 13, and also connecting wires 2 correct lengths according to the catalog of spare parts.
Cut off plugs of the damaged antenna wire.
The rest of the damaged antenna wire remains in the car.
Connect adaptor cables 1 and 3 to car devices.
Lay and fix a connecting wire 2 directly near a "serial" wire.

NOTE
Antenna wires cannot be cracked and to bend strongly. Radius of a bend has to be not less than 50 mm.

Connect a connecting wire with adaptor cables.
Carry out an inspection.

Repair of wires of section to 0,35 mm2
At repair of wires with section to 0,35 mm2 it is necessary to napressovat new tips blooming pincers for JPT contacts, or blooming pincers (without head) VAS 1978/12 with the established replaceable head for JPT contacts – VAS 1978/91. Because of small sizes of current in these wires, in micro – and the millidiapazena, incorrectly pressured up contacts lead to transitional resistance and cause failures or failure of any system. Most often such contacts meet in the following devices:
– lambda probe;
– speed sensor;
– measuring instrument of a mass consumption of air.
Thanks to application of blooming pincers for contacts of JPT or blooming pincers (without head) with the established replaceable head for contacts of JPT the correct connection between blooming contact, a wire and a sealant of a wire (Seal) is provided. Use the tool only directly.

NOTE
On repair wires of a napressovana standard or gilded tips. At repair follows always use such tip which was applied initially.

Pressure testing of a new tip with a wire sealant
Insert a replaceable head for contacts of JPT into blooming pincers (the basis of handles).

Fig. 7.112. Installation of a sealant

Get a wire sealant on a repair wire (fig. 7.112).

NOTE
Smaller diameter of a sealant at the same time has to be on the party of a tip.

Fig. 7.113. Installation of a wire in blooming pincers

Open blooming pincers and insert the end of a repair wire into an opening for cleaning of isolation (fig. 7.113).
Completely squeeze pincers.
Again open pincers and take the smoothed-out wire.
Shift a wire sealant towards the smoothed-out end that it came to an end flush with isolation of a wire.
Insert new blooming a tip into a pharynx of blooming pincers.

Fig. 7.114. Installation of a wire in blooming a tip

Insert the smoothed-out end of a wire with the leveled sealant in blooming a tip that the end adjoined to the mark "Wire-Stop" (fig. 7.114).
Pressure up a tip, a wire and a sealant, having completely squeezed blooming pincers.
Again open pincers and take a ready tip.

Fig. 7.115. Example of the correct pressure testing of a wire

Correctly executed pressure testing differs in pure compression of a wire and sealant in a tip, and on its reverse side there is a stamping which designates that pressure testing was executed competently and with the appropriate tool (fig. 7.115).

Break of a wire in one place
The place of repair with one blooming sleeve
Release a wire which needs to be repaired (about 20 cm in both parties from the place of repair).
If necessary remove a winding of a plait of conducting with a penknife.
Vyrezhte the damaged wire piece pincers for isolation cleaning.

NOTE
If both remained the end of a wire because of cutting the damaged piece are too short for repair with one blooming sleeve, then follows use a piece of a wire of the corresponding length, having established two blooming sleeves.

Fig. 7.116. Cleaning of a wire

Smooth out 6–7 mm of isolation since the ends of a wire by means of pincers for cleaning of isolation (fig. 7.116).

Fig. 7.117. Pressure testing of a blooming sleeve

Get a blooming sleeve on both smoothed out the end of a wire and pressure up its blooming pincers (fig. 7.117).

NOTE
Be convinced of use of a suitable tip for the used blooming sleeve.

Isolation of a wire cannot be pressured up.
After pressure testing a blooming sleeve it is necessary to seat not to allow hit of moisture in it.
Install a nozzle on the industrial hair dryer, 220 V / 50 Hz.

Fig. 7.118. Warming up of a blooming sleeve

Warm a blooming sleeve the hair dryer in the longitudinal direction from the middle to edges until it contracts completely and on the ends glue (fig. 7.118) acts.

ATTENTION
At shrinkage of blooming connections to watch that a hot nozzle of the hair dryer do not damage other wires, plastic details or isolation.
Observe indications of the operation manual on the hair dryer

NOTE
In need of repair of several wires it is necessary to observe a certain distance between blooming sleeves. that in a grasp the plait of wires was not too thick after repair, establish blooming sleeves with some shift rather each other.
If initially repaired place was wound by an insulating tape, then after repair it should be wound with a yellow insulating tape.
The repaired plait of wires should be fixed later if necessary by a collar for a coupler of wires to avoid foreign sounds when driving.
