7.2.4. Removal and installation of the rechargeable battery in a motor compartment

ATTENTION On cars with the Telematik system before shutdown of joint stock bank activate an operating mode of the Telematik control unit. For the cars equipped with the radio tape recorder / radio navigational system with a protective code (only cars of other producers), consider a protective code, if necessary request it.

Switch off ignition.

Extend rubber laying of a cover of the water taking away box on an arrow.

Uncover the water taking away box 1 advance (fig. 7.5).

Disconnect a wire of weight 1 from a negative pole of the accumulator and disconnect a positive wire 2 from a positive pole of the accumulator (fig. 7.6).

Unscrew the screw with an internal hexagon 4 on a fixing bracket 3 accumulators.

NOTE On cars with an extension the screw with an internal hexagon 4 needs to be unscrewed a key for screws with an internal hexagon with a spherical head.

Unscrew the screw with an internal hexagon until the spherical head of a key does not begin to rub about an extension.

Leave the screw with an internal hexagon and a fixing bracket on the place and incline the accumulator under a fixing bracket.

Pull out a corner of the central gas outlet (fig. 7.7).

Take the rechargeable battery from the water taking away box.

ATTENTION At utilization of accumulators surely observe instructions on utilization of accumulators and sulfuric acid.

Establish in the return sequence.

NOTE Only installation of the accumulators which are not demanding technical leaving according to the TL82506 standard (since December, 1997) and "VW75073" is allowed (since August, 2001).

Accumulators of the program of Audi spare parts have a basic level adapter for adaptation to various level of fastening. Information on existence and a way of use of a basic level adapter is provided in the operation manual on the accumulator.

Install the accumulator in a support so that the ledge of an arm of fastening entered dredging in a basic level of the case of joint stock bank of 1 (fig. 7.8).

Joint stock bank should not move more.

To joint stock bank it is established correctly if the average cut of a basic level of the battery coincides with a carving opening in a support of the battery (arrow) (fig. 7.9).

Tighten a fixing bracket 3 accumulators the screw with an internal hexagon of 4 (fig. 7.6).

NOTE The ledge in a fixing bracket of joint stock bank has to enter dredging on a basic level of the case of joint stock bank.

Connect plugs of joint stock bank at the switched-off ignition and the disconnected electroconsumers in the following sequence.

First of all manually get a polar tip 2 positive wires on a positive pole of the + accumulator and tighten a nut.

Manually get a polar tip of 1 wire of weight on a negative pole of the - accumulator and tighten a nut.

Insert a hose of the central gas outlet, observe instructions.

After installation check reliability of fastening of joint stock bank.

NOTE If the joint stock bank is connected repeatedly, it is necessary to take care of activating the devices which are included in the car package (the radio tape recorder, radio navigational system, hours, power windows) according to the operation manual.

Deactivate an operating mode of the Telematik control unit.

Check functioning of remote radio control, if necessary, synchronize a radio code.

After repeated connection of power supply the alarm lamp of ESP dies away only through several meters of the movement.

The screw to a fixing bracket of joint stock bank: 12 N · m.

The accumulator plug to a polar conclusion: 7,5 N · m.
