7.2.13. Strongly discharged joint stock banks

The joint stock banks which are not working for a long time in the mode of the movement, for example, in cars stored, are subject to a self-discharge.
Deeply discharged is considered the accumulator in which tension of rest falls less than 11,6 Century. If tension makes from 12,2 to 11,6 In, then the accumulator is damaged. Measure rest tension.
At deeply discharged accumulators electrolyte (water solution of sulfuric acid) consists almost completely of water as the share of sulfuric acid is strongly lowered. At negative temperatures the accumulator can freeze, and the case – to burst.
Strongly discharged joint stock banks are subject to sulphation, that is all surfaces of plates of the rechargeable battery harden. Electrolyte is opaque, it has a subtle whitish shade.
If strongly discharged by joint stock bank to load directly after a deep discharge, then process of sulphation will be resumed.
If not to recharge such rechargeable battery, its plates harden even stronger and ability of joint stock bank to reception of a charge is limited. It leads to decrease in capacity of the rechargeable battery.

Operations procedure at charging of deeply discharged accumulators having sulfatirovanny plates
Deeply discharged accumulators having sulfatirovanny plates need to be charged with small charging current as follows.
Establish charging current прибл. for 5% of capacity of the accumulator, i.e. in this case for joint stock bank with a capacity of 60 And / charging current makes hour прибл. 3 A (Ampere).
Charge voltage (Umaks) can make max. 14,4 Century.

NOTE
Bystry charging of deeply discharged accumulators is not allowed.
