4.2.2. Leakage of shock-absorbers

Shock-absorbers often are rejected and change because of their leakage. The researches conducted at the stand and on cars showed that often replacement of allegedly rejected shock-absorbers was unreasonable.
Small leak of oil ("sweating") on consolidation of a rod is not the reason for replacement of the shock-absorber. The shock-absorber with traces of oil is considered normal under following conditions.

Fig. 4.36. Site of leak of oil

Oil leak (on rice 4.36. it is darkened) it is visible, but traces look dim, opaque or dried up by dust
Traces of the flowed-out oil from the damper lock (consolidation of a rod) to (max.) plate of a spring

NOTE
Small leak of oil is advantage as consolidation of a rod thereby is greased, and the term of its service increases. It belongs to shock-absorbers of forward and back suspension brackets.
