1.4.9. System of safety cushions

The pillow represents a part of the general concept of passive safety.

At dangerous frontal collisions the system of forward safety cushions together with three-point seat belts provides additional protection of area of the head and thorax of the driver and forward passenger.

At strong side crashes side and head pillows reduce danger of damages of the passengers who are in a blow zone.

Seat belts, along with their traditional protective function, have to hold in case of accident the driver and the forward passenger in such situation that pillows could reveal and provide additional protection correctly.

The system of safety cushions works only at the included ignition. Readiness of function of system of pillows is controlled by electronics and brought to the display by means of a control lamp of "AIRBAG".

NOTE At inflation of a pillow fine dust is formed. It is normal and does not demonstrate fire of the car.

The forward safety cushion of the driver is in the panel of a covering of a steering wheel (fig. 1.131). The forward pillow of the forward passenger is over a ware box on the right side of the dashboard (fig. 1.131). The location of pillows is designated by the inscription "AIRBAG".

At dangerous frontal collisions the system of forward safety cushions together with three-point belts provides additional protection of area of the head and thorax of the driver and forward passenger.

Completely mumpish pillows reduce danger of injuries of the head and the top part of a trunk.

The system of safety cushions is calculated on operation of pillows of the driver and forward passenger at dangerous frontal collisions.

In special emergencies both forward, and head and side pillows can work.

At operation of system there is a filling of airbags working gas and their disclosure before the driver and the forward passenger. Inflation of safety cushions happens for the 100-th fractions of a second and to high speed for the purpose of ensuring additional protection at accident. At contact with completely mumpish airbag advance of the driver and forward passenger is extinguished and danger of injuries of the head and the top part of a trunk decreases.

Specially developed design of an inflatable pillow provides the operated exit of working gas under the influence of the driver or the passenger for the purpose of mitigation of reception of the head and a trunk. Thereof there is blowing off of a pillow after its operation and as a result the forward review is again released.

ATTENTION The driver and the forward passenger have to maintain the minimum distance of 25 cm but to the relation to a steering wheel / dashboard.

At side crashes the side pillow together with system of head pillows ("SIDEGUARD") raises degree of security of passengers.

Side safety cushions are in a covering of backs of front and side back seats (fig. 1.132). The location of pillows is designated by the inscription "ATRBAG".

At dangerous side crashes the system of side safety cushions together with three-point belts provides additional protection of all top part of a trunk (a breast, a stomach and a basin) the driver and passengers.

At dangerous side crashes side pillows reduce risk of traumatizing from doors.

At operation of side safety cushions, for the purpose of increase in degree of protection of passengers, from the relevant party always head pillows ("SIDEGUARD") also reveal.

Completely mumpish side pillows reduce danger of damages of the top part of a trunk.

At dangerous side crashes the side pillow of the relevant party of the car (fig. 1.132) reveals.

In special emergencies both forward, and head and side pillows can work.

At operation of system there is a filling of airbags working gas.

The lock switch located in a ware box it is possible to disconnect a safety cushion of the forward passenger.

The lock switch of shutdown of a pillow of the forward passenger is in a ware box (fig. 1.133).

For shutdown of a pillow of the forward passenger turn a car key in situation 0.

The pillow joins turn of a key in situation 1.

Reminds continuous burning of an alarm lamp of "PASSENGER A1RBAG OFF" of the pillow of the forward passenger which is disconnected by the lock switch.

NOTE At the disconnected pillow of the forward passenger all other pillows of the car are in an operating mode.
